ABOUT
Charlotte Dawson is a multi disciplined artist , arts educator and arts event facilitator based in York , UK.
Her first official creative studies were at Westwood Art College , Scarborough in 96-98 . Sometime later a short course in jewellery making at York School of Jewellery , then onto an Access Course in Art & Design at York College 2011-2012. Charlotte thenwent on to gain a BA Hons Art & Design Interdisciplinary at Leeds University of Arts 2012-2015.
Over the past 20 years Charlotte has worked across a spectrum of disciplines from performance , photography , writing , installation art and now predominantly focuses on painting , jewellery and facilitating arts events /teaching.
Charlotte's painting explores abstract visual language. She works quickly and intuitively to discover interesting compositions and colours through energetic and gestural mark making. Charlotte works compulsively to express a current feeling , notion & flow thus producing multiples and creating many 'series' of work. The images in this website gallery show just a taste of the many paintings that Charlotte has produced over the last 4 years .
The abstract works speak of journey , narrative and experience and seem like they can not be communicated in any other way but through motifs , colour and bold ,often repetitive marks. The titles are intended to resonate the general mood of the painting rather than describe the content of the work with the aim to allow the viewer to interperate the colours , forms ,compositions and narrate their own visual meaning if any.
Charlotte's jewellery work is often also largely led by colour , incorporating semi precious stones and beads along with dreamy blue/white sea pottery. Using predominantly silver and copper to create contemporary yet everyday wearable art
Charlotte facilitates an award winning , York River Art Market ,teaches Art and Design at York College and over the last decade has facilitated numerous creative projects .
